Traditionally, the environmental forum was held in Kryvyi Rih. It was dedicated to the World Environment Day and was initiated by the Public Joint Stock Company “ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih”. The Environmental forum was held on July, 9th, 2017 on the base of regional platform of “Green Solutions” that is created by Ukrainian-German project.
Forum was started from the opening of the alley in the “ArcelorMittal” Metallurgists’ Park. Promises about environmental cleanliness from enterprise and from town hall were sounded at their appeals to the citizens.
The emissions to the atmosphere were reduced by “ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih” by 7% in the first quarter of 2017 taking in account that production volumes were increased. Volodymyr Teslyuk, the acting Head of the Enterprise told about it in details at the conference in the “ArcelorMittal” Academy. He noticed that it is planning to spend 1,5 billion dollars for modernization according to the strategic plan in nearest three years and for the environmental issues will be directed 15-20% of total amount.
The main intentions are to build two new installations of breakerless casting filling as an addition to the current installation, to finish the reconstruction of coke-chemical production (four sets already have reconstructed), large-scale work started on the degassing and on the main air pollutant – on the sintering plant.
The participants of the forum were allowed not only to hear, but also they had opportunity to see the production facilities. The activists of environmental public organizations were present among invited guests. They told in their comments that the company’s management has found common ground with the public, became to work transparently, keep their promises, which they had given at the public hearing in November last year.
Liana Maksymenko, the main ecologist of enterprise did a great contribution to this case. And we in order to general opinion of forum participants decided to elect her as Ambassador of regional platform “Green solutions”.
