PJSC ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih directed over UAH 150 mln to reconstruction of Converter No.4 in Converter Shop. Previously such works were executed in Converters No.5,6 where gas exhaust duct and gas cleaning systems, which function is the derivation, cooling and converter gas cleaning were fully replaced. The project is performed within reconstruction of Converter Shop with the replacement of gas cleaning units, which is one of the key component of large investment program of PJSC ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih. Execution of this investment project will give an opportunity to reduce gross emissions of pollutants to the atmosphere by 2.7 kt per year.

In the course of reconstruction at Converter No.4 a new system of gas exhausting ducts and gas cleaning systems was introduced, gas exhausting duct from gas exhausting place out of converter’s nose was replaced, caisson with gas pipe was modernized. Also a new two-stage column scrubber was installed, gas pipes were replaced from gas cleaning unit to smoke extractor divisions, new smoke extractors were installed, flare stack for CO after-burner is operating.

Within reconstruction the main working parts of the aggregate were also replaced – the body of converter and supporting ring. The system of monitoring of the converter body temperature was installed, which is important for aggregate operation reliability increase. The steel structures were replaced and repair of an oxygen nozzle drive gear which is used for oxygen smelting blow was performed. Ladle car and slag car of converter were replaced for new ones. The repair of converter sweep drive was performed – the device, which ensures the change of converter body inclination at different angles. Steel structures and aggregate workplace protection shields were fully replaced, which ensures the working safety for technological and repair staff. Bulky material supply track was repaired. A new track of ferroalloys supply was constructed. Its peculiarities give opportunity to expand the steel grades assortment which can be obtained in Converter No.4.

Oleg Belger, Head of Converter Shop: “Currently, the Converters No.5,6 are working as per normal, Converter No.4 is commissioned in test production. We expect the growth of aggregate reliability and reduction of smelting cycle time, which will allow to increase the productivity of a converter. The body is equipped with sensors, which allow to accurately define the places of lining wear-out and restore it in time. The operation at reconstructed equipment is safer. Efficiency of production and imposition of environmental projects is the priority of our investment programs and strategies of development of PJSC ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih”.
