In October at PJSC ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih held a meeting with NGO „Kryvyi Rih Council of Environment”. In the course of the meeting we presented information on fulfillment of our obligations as per „Municipal program on solving of environmental problems of Kryvbas and environment improvement 2016-2025”, including compensation activities, and „Memorandum on realization of nature protection measures and fulfillment of environmental safety between Coalition „Stop to poison Kryvyi Rih” on improvement of steel production process at THF-6 of OHF shop with minimization of fugitive emissions.
In September 2017 THF-6 was switched to direct flow mode. Currently we are working on the heat mode improvement. The works are to be completed by December 2017.
The Memorandum stipulates the principles of cooperation. One of such principles is publicity of environment-related information including data of monitoring. This requirement has been fully met: on the border of the sanitary protection zone of the company we have an automated system for ecological monitoring of atmospheric air, that consists of 3 automated observation stations in the impact area of Steel Plant, Coke-oven Plant and Mining Department. In 2017 all instruments were calibrated by the state agencies, and starting from 10.05.2017 all primary data on contaminants content are transmitted in the on-line mode to the official website of AMKR for public access.
During the meeting, the draft of „Procedure on interactions between PJSC ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih and Coalition” was provided. This draft will be used for preparation of the procedure for the Working Group that should be created in accordance with Memorandum.
Liana Maksimenko – Director of Environment Protection Department: „One of the main components of environment policy is openness of environment information and cooperation with all stakeholders for taking decisions in the area of environment. With regard to this, in 2017 we implemented a range of public relations activities: plant visit on 13.04.2017, Ecological Forum with site visits on 09.06.2017, Round Table with stakeholders on 30.08.2017. In the course of this meeting we are demonstrating the next stage of fulfillment of our environmental obligations and our readiness to cooperate with city community. I believe that mutually beneficial work on reduction of the company operation impact will become an outcome of our joint work”.
