On May 30th, 2017, in Dnipropetrovsk region, the opening ceremony of the second stage of the demonstration farm of the joint venture “Molocarske” (Pokrovska
district) and the First Cooperative Elevator in Ukraine (Vasilkovska district) took place.
The ‘Green Business Solutions are Unity for Sustainable Development’ project welcomed the invitation to take part in the celebrations.
The opening of the second phase of the farm took place in the framework of the international technical assistance project of ‘Dairy Business Development in Ukraine’ with the financial support of the Canadian Government, Danone Ecosystem Foundation, Danone Company in Ukraine and Heifer International in cooperation with the Canadian NGO SOCODEVI, Dobrobut Gromad, the International Charitable Fund, and Agricultural Consulting Service.
For us, as the representatives of Green Solutions – Sustainable Future project, it was very interesting to see the example of doing business in the spirit of green economy. The improvement of life quality of the cooperative members is accompanied by careful and sustainable use of resources, securing of living conditions for animals that meet their biological, specific and individual characteristics, modern waste management.
The application of such milk production system can increase the milk yield by 14-19%, reduce labor costs by 20%, improve the use of livestock facilities by 15-20%, and significantly reduce feed costs and milk prime cost.
The opening of the First Cooperative Elevator within the framework of the “Development of Granaries and Agricultural Cooperatives in Ukraine” project was also interesting event. The project is also funded by the Canadian government, and in Ukraine it is implemented by the non-governmental organization SOCODEVI in partnership with the Dnipropetrovsk regional public organization Agricultural Advisory Service.
The elevator uses high-tech equipment, which was almost all supplied by Ukrainian manufacturers. A transport line with a capacity of 175 tons per year (for wheat) with a system of purification on four separators, automatic weighs with automatic samplers, a dryer with a capacity of 68 tons per year was installed.
In general, it is assumed that the members of the cooperative will use the elevator free or charge, provided that within the next 5 years they will independently build the second stage of the granary.
During the events, the team of Green Solutions – Sustainable Future project introdusced the present members of agricultural cooperatives to the benefits of farming on the principles of the green economy and suggested to fill in the questionnaires for inclusion in the industry database of enterprises of Dnipropetrovsk region, which use green technologies in their activity, being their developers, manufacturers or importers.
