Recently, humanity more and more asks itself the question: what do we drink and eat, what do we breathe and how much will it set us back today and in the future?

On October, 10-13, 2017, a seminar “Ecological Aspects of Metallurgy and Energy. Green solutions for environmental protection” was held at the National Metallurgical Academy of Ukraine in the framework of XVIII International Conference “Heat Engineering, Energy and Ecology of Metallurgy”. The organizers of the seminar were: the Federation of Employers’ Organizations of Dnipropetrovsk Region in the person of Viktor Serhieiev, Doctor of Economics, the Head of “Green Business Solutions – Unity for Sustainable Development” project and the National Metallurgical Academy of Ukraine in the person of Olena Matukhno, the Ambassador (responsible person) of the project on work with youth and students, Ph.D., associate professor of the department of ecology, heat engineering and labor protection.

The purpose of this event was to popularize the ideas of “green” economic development among students, undergraduate and postgraduate students, researchers, business representatives of industry and community.

The seminar participants considered and discussed concrete examples of how the operation of the principles and the green economy tools affects the development, modernization and green production.

The speakers were the leading regional experts on sustainable development, resource and energy saving, the Ukrainian – Norwegian model of cleaner production, the best available technologies, environmental audit: Hryhorii Shmatkov, Doctor of Engineering Science, Professor, Ph.D., prof. Volodymyr Shatokha, Volodymyr Bahariev, Ph.D., Oleksii Anhurets and others, as well as the floor was given to the masters of ecology.

Under the conditions of fierce competition on the world markets, the production of “green” environmentally certified, and, therefore, environmentally safe products should become the goal of business in Ukraine.

The organizers of the seminar believe that such interactive teaching methods will create the “green consciousness” and “green” world outlook of the younger generation. This is important, as in a few months, graduates and masters will have the task of bringing the existing domestic business in line with the requirements of the external and internal markets, which is impossible without the introduction of the principles of the green economy.
