In September 19-21, 2017 the 1st Expert Group Meeting on the topic „Development priorities and Industrial Policy Objectives for Ukraine” was held in the frame of cooperation between GIZ and MEDT for developing of a new Industrial Development Strategy and Action Plan for Ukraine.
The foundation for the joint work is the methodology EQuIP (Enhancing the Quality of Industrial Policy), which aims to support policymakers with formulation and design of research-based strategies for inclusive and sustainable industrial development. The toolbox covers the most important aspects of industrialisation: from industrial growth and diversification to productive generation of employment and greening of industry.
The finalised EQuIP methodology for Ukraine will be elaborated during 4 customised Expert Group Meetings (EGMs). During the meetings, the experts are guided by 2 EQuIP facilitators to discuss and prioritise the core issues and strategic approaches for the new Industrial Development Strategy of Ukraine.
During the first EGM the experts focused on:
1) definition of the core National Development Goals in Ukraine that Industrial Policy can contribute to most effectively;
2) prioritisation of two Industrial Policy Objectives that will serve as the core pillars of the Strategy;
3) definition of suitable indicators and data sources for the Industrial Policy Objectives.
The EGM brought together a wide range of Industrial Policy Experts from various ministries, civil society, academia, private sector and international experts, who have contributed their unique personal and institutional insights and expertise into the topic.
