The World Bank and DTEK start cooperation within the framework of the project „Partnership for market readiness”. The aim of the project is development of monitoring plan and reporting of greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) for the preparation of Thermal Power Plant (TPP) participation in the national GHG emissions trading.

After the EU Association Agreement signing, in June 2014 Ukraine undertook to implement a number of European Union environmental directives including Directive No. 2003/87/EU, establishing a system for trading greenhouse gas emission quotas.

„In Europe, a system for monitoring, reporting and verifying greenhouse gas emissions has been successfully operating for more than 10 years. Formation in Ukraine an effective national carbon market and its subsequent accession to the EU market will allow achieving the goals of the national and global climate policy, as well as gaining economic benefits. DTEK is ready to implement the best European practices at their enterprises. Starting the trading system of greenhouse gas emissions in Ukraine is impossible without laborious preparatory work. With technical support from the World Bank DTEK starts preparing to participate in the system of monitoring, reporting and verification of GHG emissions. Zaporizhzhia Thermal Power Plant (TPP) was selected as a pilot project” – Iryna Verbytska, head of the DTEK Energo department of environmental safety, says.

With the participation of Carbon Limits AS, employees of TPP responsible divisions and the DTEK Energo Department of Environmental Safety it was discussed key aspects of this project implementation.
